Down the alley, visitors will find a wet lane with no drainage. If it rains this area will get flooded quickly. Entering the temple, the atmosphere suddenly changes; it feels calm and shady. Dozens of candles and lanterns make it more solemn.

“The characteristics of Sin Tek Bio temple are the same as other temples that were built before the 20th century. On top of the building there are two dragon statues and a pearl in the middle. The main pillars in the room also have two dragons embracing them. On both sides of the entrance, there are two guardian lions called Bao-gu-shi,” said temple caretaker Santoso Witoyo.

Inside the temple there are hundreds of deity statues with some dating back to the 17th century. The statues are placed on the first and second floors with prayer altars. “There is a total of 28 deities in this temple,” explained Santoso.
