Jakarta, IO – The plaques were conferred for the designation of Sumbu Filosofis Yogyakarta (Cosmological Axis of Yogyakarta and its historic landmarks) and the Jamu Wellness Culture. They were handed over by the Foreign Ministry’s (Kemlu) Directorate General of Multilateral Cooperation secretary Yophy Ichsan Wardana to the Education, Culture, Research and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) Culture director general Hilmar Farid, who will hand them further to the Indonesian National Archives director Imam Gunarto on Thursday (25/4).

Sumbu Filosofis Yogyakarta has been designated as the world cultural heritage since September 24, 2023 at the UNESCO’s 45th session in Riyadh. This determination was followed by the Jamu Wellness Culture on December 6, 2023 at the UNESCO’s 18th session in Kasane, Botswana, per Detikcom, Fri (26/4).

Dikbudristek minister Nadiem Anwar Makarim appreciated every effort to preserve culture especially those aiming to protect, develop and make a real contribution to the field of global health and welfare.

“As one of our cultural heritages, herbal medicine represents a deep, meaningful and harmonious relationship between humans and nature. Herbal medicine has also been an inseparable part of the lives of Indonesian people for centuries,” said Nadiem.

Hilmar also conveyed the addition of two plaques, meaning that all members of the community are also responsible for their preservation, which is an integral part of UNESCO’s cultural heritage recognition status assessment.

“We bear a responsibility to actively conserve them because there is a provision that every two years we have to report on the state of the conservation. If there is neglect, the status can be revoked,” warned Hilmar. (un)
