Jakarta, IO – Indonesian Electoral Commission (KPU) is set to formalize Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as president- and vice president-elect on Wednesday (24/4).

This step was taken after the Constitutional Court (MK) rejected the court challenge to election result filed by the losing pairs Anies Baswedan-Muhaimin Iskandar and Ganjar Pranowo-Mahfud MD. On of their demands was to disqualify the victor and re-run the election as they claimed widespread fraud and state interference, particularly the alleged meddling by President Joko Widodo, the father of Gibran.

“The next stage is the official designation of the 2024 presidential election winner,” said KPU chairman Hasyim Asy’ari, per CNN Indonesia.

Based on the final official count, Prabowo-Gibran won 96.2 million votes (58.6 percent of valid national votes), compared with 40.9 million votes (24.9 percent) by Anies-Muhaimin and 27 million votes (16.5 percent) by Ganjar-Mahfud.

In its ruling, MK ruled that there was “no legal basis” to suggest that there had been any systematic fraud or that state intervention has been used to sway voters into choosing a certain candidate.

In response to MK decision, Prabowo thanked the people who have given him mandate and urged all to refocus attention on building Indonesia together going forward.

“We should now move forward and look toward the future,” said Prabowo. (un)
