Cases of violence against women in Solo has increased in the past 5 years

Jakarta, IO – This was revealed by the Women’s Solidarity for Humanity and Human Rights Foundation (SPEK-HAM), a non-profit organization. Most of the cases happened between 2019-2023.

SPEK-HAM community-based violence prevention and handling department head Fitri Haryani said that the cases are dominated by domestic violence (KDRT), per Kompas, Wednesday (24/4).

During the period, there were a total of 68 cases of violence against women (80 in 2020, 71 in 2021, 74 in 2022, and 75 in 2023. “Domestic violence accounted for 69 percent of the cases,” said Fitri.

The second most common case is sexual violence. The violence often took the form of psychological abuse (42 cases), physical abuse (37 cases), neglect (27 cases) and sexual violence (14 cases). “One victim can experience more than one form of violence,” said Fitri.

She also revealed that the majority of the victims and perpetrators were of the productive age group (24-40), followed by those aged 41-60, and 18-24. (un)
