Jakarta, IO – Iberian Sinfonietta is an orchestra consisting of the best musicians from all over Spain. Its headquarter is in Fuengirola, Malaga, Spain founded by Juan Paulo Gomez as its artistic director, who is also the professor of conducting at the Malaga Conservatory of Music.

When the pandemic arrived all of their activities must be postponed. Fortunately last year they resurrected with their concert in Palacio de la Paz.

Started in September 2023, the orchestra will end their 2023-2024 journey by May 18th 2024. In this opportunity Ananda Sukarlan will be giving the world premier of his newest masterpiece, a Concerto for Viola and Orchestra.

As said by Juan Paulo Gomez, The Iberian Sinfonietta have the main objective of creating a cycle of quality classical music with a regularity that allows stable links with an audience that loves this type of music.

It also has an essential mission to help young performers of works by both professional and young composers.

“In this sense, having had the interest and support of the Fuengirola City Council has been fundamental to launching the project, for which I am very grateful and their involvement is greater each season,” says Juan.

He underlines the importance of collaboration with other musical institutions with similar objectives to Iberian Sinfonietta.

The concert will be taking place on Saturday, May 18th 2024. The 2024-2025 season will begin in September 2024, conducted by Maestro Juan Paulo Gomez accompanied by three young soloists of their respective musical instruments.

Nazariy Annyuk, young Ukrainian-born viola player will join Ananda Sukarlan’s new Violin Concerto, programmed together with two emblematic concertos in the history of classical music which is French Horn Concerto no.1, written in 1882 by Richard Strauss (1864-1949) and the Violin Concerto by Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847).

The french horn soloist is the young Maria Dolores Paloma Marin, winner of the Concurso del Alacalá Horn Campus 2022 while Salvador Raya Castellano will be joining as violin soloist. Salvador is a young professor at Madrid and Granada Conservatories of Music.

Nazariy Annyuk who moved and now is residing in Spain has been working as the concertmaster of the Orquesta de Cámara Promúsica. His brilliant career was marked by his collaborations with prominent Spanish conductors such as Daniele Gatti, Juanjo Mena, Pablo González, Pablo Heras-Casado, Manuel Hernández-Silva, Edmon Colomer or Andrés Salado, among others.

The world premiere of Sukarlan’s Viola Concerto would thus become a symbol of unity in diversity: composed by an Indonesian composer (and also using a folk tune from old Jakarta as one of its motifs), performed and conducted by a Spanish orchestra with a Ukrainian soloist.

Both Nazariy Annyuk and Ananda Sukarlan gave interviews (in Spanish) which can be read through these links:

Ananda Sukarlan has just bestowed the Kingdom of Spain’s highest civil order of chivalry and honor, the Real Orden de Isabel la Católica last year (2023). This is another addition to the highest honor the Indonesian maestro received earlier from the President of the Republic of Italy Sergio Mattarella, which is the Cavaliere Ordine della Stella d’Italia in 2020.
