Jakarta, IO – Indonesian culinary delights have become increasingly popular globally. This time, there are three Indonesian snacks — siomay, pempek and batagor — that make it to the list of “100 Best Street Foods in the World” according to Taste Atlas, an online platform that often ranks a variety of food and tourism, Friday (26/4).
They compete with other well-known snacks such as Guotie from China and Tacos from Mexico. Topping the list is siomay, steamed dumpling made of fish or chicken served with peanut sauce as well as additional content such as eggs, potatoes, tofu, and bitter melon.
Pempek is placed fourth, which is made from mackerel fish and mixed with flour. The mixture is fried and served with a dark brown vinegar sauce called cuko. Currently, there are various types of pempek, including lenjer, adaan, “submarine”, and curly.
