Latest update: Cianjur earthquake fatalities rise to 268

Jakarta, IO – The National Disaster Mitigation Agency (BNPB) announced an increase in the death toll from the earthquake that happened in Cianjur, West Java, on Monday (21/11). BNPB chief Lt. Gen. Suharyanto revealed that the death toll had reached more than 200.

“268 people have died, 122 bodies have been identified, and there are still 151 missing. We will try our best to find all the victims,” said Suharyanto in a written statement, Wednesday (23/11).

The earthquake also injured 1,083 people and displaced 58,362, as well as causing extensive damages to a total of 22,198 houses.

“Large tents to accommodate refugees have been set up by BNPB, government, TNI/Polri and other aid agencies,” said Suharyanto. “Public kitchens have been operating, if there are still things that are lacking and have not been served, we will gradually improve them.”
