Indonesia has various kinds of rock music. Therefore, JRFestival this year features bands from different generations and sub-genres: the Indonesian “Big Four” metal bands Burgerkill, Deadsquad, Seringai, and Death Vomit; the legendary bands Godbless, Grass Rock, Jamrud, Makara, and Edane in the main stage; the badass young ‘uns gone international Voice of Baceprot, Superman is Dead, The Hydrant, and Prison of Blues. Yogyakarta as the host proudly presented its local rockers Sangkakala, Serigala Malam, and The Melting Minds, who performed just as ferociously as any of the others.
Initially, the American band Hoobastank was planned to perform on the second day of the Festival. However, they could not honor their commitment to play in Indonesia because their guitarist Dan Estrin broke his leg on Monday (19/09/2022), precisely during his preparation for the Indonesian tour. Despite Hoobastank’s failure to show, Indonesian rock fans still welcomed the JRF enthusiastically.
Previously, JogjaROCKarta Festival has always been held in the Kridosono Stadium. This year, the organizers decided to present a different experience by changing the venue to Tebing Breksi. Located southward of the Prambanan Temple in Sambirejo, Prambanan, Regency of Sleman, it is a literal rock cliff situated 200 meters above sea level. The exotic, varied landscape of these tall cliffs, combined with the view of Yogya city from up high, makes Tebing Breksi the perfectly rugged, “rocking” venue for a rock concert.
