The percentage of Indonesians participating in voluntary activities was 63 percent, almost three times higher than the global average of 23 percent. While the percentage of citizens who donated to strangers was 58 percent, slightly lower than the global average of 62 percent.
On the announcement, Public Interest Research and Advocacy Center (PIRAC) chair Hamid Abidin said he was amazed at the achievements made by the Indonesian philanthropic sector in the past five years.
“Indonesia has consistently been in the top position for half a decade. This shows the strength of our philanthropic tradition which is inspired by religious teachings and local traditions that have been practiced for decades. The pandemic apparently has not reduced the enthusiasm of Indonesian to donate, only the amount and form of donations,” said Hamid.
