Jakarta, IO – Crowds of people from NGO Majelis Penderitaan Rakyat held a demonstration outside the parliament to oppose the World Health Organization (WHO) Pandemic Treaty, Jakarta, Friday (26/4).
They held up posters and banners demanding that the government reject the treaty scheduled to be ratified at the 77th session of WHO in May 2024. The treaty is considered detrimental to nations because its gives WHO the legally-binding authority over world’s governments over policies like lockdowns, mobility restrictions, surveillance, behavioral responses, and mitigation of economic risks.

For the reference, the WHO Pandemic Treaty is a redesignation of the WHO convention, agreement or other international instrument on pandemic prevention, preparedness and response (WHO CA+) which seeks to prevent and tackle future pandemics.
