The festival usually involves taking holy water from a spring in Jumprit, Temanggung regency, Central Java then stored in Mendut Temple not far from Borobudur Temple, Solopos reported.

Then there is the ritual of lighting the Vesak torch by taking fire from the Mrepen Eternal Fire, in Mrepen village, Grobogan regency. This fire will be stored in Mendut Temple first and then brought to Borobudur Temple.

Another ritual is Pindapatta, where Buddhist monks receive food offerings from Buddhism devotees. The monks will walk with their heads down while carrying a bowl which will later be filled with alms by devotees voluntarily. This philosophy is meant to signify giving and taking.
