Vesak rituals at Borobudur Temple, from holy water of Jumprit to eternal flame of Mrepen

Jakarta, IO – Borobudur Temple hosted Vesak festival on Monday (16/5). Tourists were welcome to see the ritual up close.

“This is the first time the ritual is held again after almost a two-year vacuum due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” said Edy Setijono President Director of PT Taman Wisata Candi (TWC) Borobudur, Prambanan, and Ratu Boko, as reported by Tempo.

Vesak Day is a Buddhist festival to commemorate three important events, namely the birth of the Buddha Sidharta Gautama, the calling of the Buddha and the death of the Buddha. In Indonesia, the festival is centered at Borobudur and Mendut Temple in Magelang regency, Central Java.
