Jakarta, IO – Kompetisi Piano Nusantara, a competition open for talented pianists all around Indonesia officially launched on Sunday, March 3rd 2024. This event will be held on August 25th to December 8th 2024.

During the launching ceremony in Yamaha Music Indonesia Pusat, Gatot Subroto, young pianists and two of Ananda Sukarlan Award 2023 winners gathered and played pieces of their choice.

Ananda Sukarlan himself opens the ceremony with playing one of his most well known piece “Amelia Thinks Classical Music is Boring”, which combines three popular classical songs: Fur Elise (Ludwig van Beethoven), La Campanella (Franz Liszt) and Oh Amelia (A.T. Mahmud).

“This piece was created during the pandemic. I have a lot of free time to make something out of the box,” says Ananda.

One of the pianists, Victor Clementius Ditra, 15 years old was one of the Ananda Sukarlan Awards 2023 winner. He plays “Variasi Bangun Pemudi Pemuda”. The piece was arranged into something more virtuosic, rather hypnotizing for the audience.

Talking about the competition, Kompetisi Piano Nusantara Plus targets young pianists under the age of 17 and hopefully became the first experience for pianists before joining bigger events such as Ananda Sukarlan Awards.

“Participants will be asked to play only two works. One from international composers such as Bach and Mozart, the other one from Indonesian classical composers. So pianists can acknowledge the works of Indonesian composers from an early age,” Ananda continues.

In the future these participants are expected to play Indonesian classical pieces if they continue their study or career abroad.

“Aside from those two requirements, we hope participants will be more creative in choosing the pieces that they like to express themselves. Hopefully they don’t feel like they are ‘forced’ to play pieces that can’t represent their character or emotion,” says Ananda.

Held in Different Regions

To reach more participants from various regions in Indonesia, Kompetisi Piano Nusantara Plus is not limited to Jakarta. Participants in Bogor, Bandung to Palembang can also join.
