Jakarta, IO – The Indonesian national football team competing in 2024 U-23 Asian Cup must score points against Australia in the second match of Group A to be held at Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Doha, Qatar, Thursday (18/4).

Coach Shin Tae-yong has instructed all the players to go all out and keep pressing ahead. Even though on paper Australia is stronger than Indonesia, Shin does not want the “Young Garuda” squad to play defensive.

“Tactic-wise, we can’t be defensive because we are targeting to get three points,” said midfielder Jeam Kelly Sroyer who also plays with Persik Kediri FC. “We are 100 percent prepared.”

Indonesia is in a precarious situation after it lost 0-2 to Qatar. This put it at the bottom of Group A standings. Meanwhile, Australia vs Jordan ended in a 0-0 draw.

The Indonesian FA (PSSI) has set the target for the national team to at least advance to the quarter-finals (last eight), or better to the semifinals so it can get a ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics. (rr)
