Jakarta, IO – President of Timor Leste Jose Ramos-Horta hopes his country can join the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) when Indonesia assumes its chairmanship in 2023. This was conveyed by President Ramos Horta when he met President Joko Widodo at the Bogor Presidential Palace on Tuesday (19/7).

In addition, he also expressed his pride and happiness at the appointment of Indonesia as the chairman of ASEAN in 2023. This, he added, cannot be separated from Indonesia’s commitment to always support Timor Leste’s accession into ASEAN.

“I am very happy that Indonesia remains committed to support Timor Leste’s membership in ASEAN. It is very natural for Timor Lester to be part of ASEAN,” he said.
