Jakarta, IO – Jakarta Culture Agency will continue with its plan to change the names of a number of streets in Jakarta to names of prominent figures.
The agency head, Iwan Henry Wardhana, said the next stage would apply to several highways. According to Iwan, the names used will not exclusively Betawi (the native ethnic group of Jakarta) figures, but also national figures, CNN Indonesia reported on Tuesday (19/7).
Iwan said the selection of the name would refer to the historical background of the figure and the area whose street will be renamed.
Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan on June 20 changed the names of several roads in Jakarta with names of Betawi figures based on Governor Decree 565/2022.
Anies insisted that changing the names of 22 streets would not create hassle for the community. He said all administration documents and land certificates do not have to be replaced immediately. (un)
