Jakarta, IO – An object hypothetized to be a centuries-old cultural heritage bridge head was found in Bekasi recently. To confirm their conclusion, the Bekasi City Municipal Cultural Heritage Expert Team immediately secured the object and prepared themselves to investigate it.
The Head of the Expert Team, Ali Anwar, declared that he has coordinated with the Municipal Government of Bekasi and request that the City’s Tourism and Culture Office immediately fence and secure the suspected cultural heritage object.
“We are now studying the unusual stone. We cautiously believe that it is the head of a bridge that was part of the Manggarai-Bekasi-Cikarang railway, constructed in the late 1890’s,” he declared as quoted by Detik, Monday (26/06/2023).
Ali went on to explain that further efforts to preserve this cultural site are the follow up action of his recent meeting with PT Kereta Api Indonesia (“KAI”) and the Jakarta Class 1 Railway Technology Office. The Expert Team investigated the ownership status of the bridge head before deciding to secure this cultural asset. (bp)
