ClimateWorks Foundation president and CEO Helen Mountford also expressed the urgency of public-private partnership in helping mobilize and coordinate technical and financial resources to build a solid foundation to achieve efficiency, including on renewable energy. She said the rate of giving by philanthropists to reduce the impact of climate change is still far from adequate.

“Developing countries in Southeast Asia, according to Helen, are very vulnerable to the impacts of climate change. Countries in Asia must have policy on renewable energy. This means that the government needs to synergize to make larger investments, and ensure that their people get access to clean energy,” she added.

Foundations Platform F20 Steering Group chairman Klaus Milke said the issue of climate change cannot be separated from that of financing. “We need more funds to tackle climate change. But if you don’t have the funds, but you have the knowledge, you can still contribute by exchanging ideas by holding many meetings to address this challenge,” he said. (un)
