“Her death immediately became the latest symbol of the tragedy. The outpouring of grief and defiance has characterized Iran demonstrations since they began nationwide on September 16,” wrote Iran Wire.

Almost 320 km away in Rasht, the capital of Iran’s northwestern Gilan province, a report emerged that an archaeology student arrested during a demonstration was denied access to medical care after being stabbed with a knife at Lakan Prison in Sabze Meydan.

The family of the student, Alireza Ghamgosar, who studies at Kashan University, said he was now being treated at the clinic after being stabbed in the back while detained on September 21. There were no details about the attack, and it was not clear who stabbed him.

According to a report by Norway-based NGO Iran Human Rights (IHR), at least 76 people have been killed during Iran protests as of Monday (26/9). (rr)
