Jakarta, IO – President Joko Widodo said 19,600 people die of hunger every day as a result of food crises fuelled by the Russia-Ukraine war. He conveyed this when giving a briefing on the occasion of the BUMN Startup Day 2022 broadcast via the Presidential Secretariat YouTube channel, CNBC Indonesia reported on Tuesday (27/9).
“Right now, I just got the numbers. 19,600 people die of hunger every day because of the food crisis globally,” said Jokowi, adding that a number of international institutions have warned that the economy this year will be difficult while next year the world will be “darker” as this year’s crisis carries over.
According to Jokowi, the Ukraine war has been the major factor that sparks global uncertainty this year. The war has triggered various kinds of crises, from energy, food, to financial.
