Jakarta, IO – MACAN museum, inaugurated in 2017 has become a must-see tourist destination in Jakarta. Located at AKR Tower in Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta, on a major artery road it is highly accessible by many public transportations.
Even though it is named MACAN (leopard), one will not find parts of the big cat here. That is because the museum’s name is an acronym. It stands for Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Nusantara. As the name suggests, MACAN displays unique modern and contemporary art works. Not only in the form of paintings, but also various mediums, such as sculptures and installation arts.
Billed the largest contemporary museum in Indonesia, this museum has around 800 works of modern and contemporary art from the private collection of its creator, Haryanto Adikoesoemo who has collected the various works of art over the last 25 years.
Although it has many works of art, the museum does not display the entire collection all at once. The collection of artworks is displayed alternately every 3-4 months. Apart from being owned by MACAN, the museum also collaborates with other artists to also display their works.
