Jakarta, IO – Ridi Ferdiana, IT expert from Gadjah Mada University (UGM) advised the government to focus on strengthening cyber security rather than tracking a hacker who call him/herself Bjorka.

“Bjorka has been confirmed to have spread the stolen data, but he is not necessarily the hacker. The government’s emergency response team should concentrate on bolstering data security instead,” said Ridi, as reported by CNN Indonesia, Thursday (15/9).

Ridi revealed that data is being sold on the dark web. Another crucial thing that the government should do according to her is to educate the public and institutions to have a culture of safe data storage because rapid technological advancement should also be coupled with up-to-date data protection system to ward off potential cyber attacks.

“The data protection system in any IT system will not be futureproof. This means that a secure system yesterday might not be secure today,” she said. (un)
