The other cases referred to are violations committed during Indonesia’s annexation of East Timor, the 1984 Tanjung Priok Tragedy, the July 27, 1996 attack and the murder of Munir.

“If the president is serious, he should also mention cases that took place after 2000,” it said.

It noted that neglect in this context can be taken as a negligence act and an insult to many victims. Thus, many people can’t be blamed for suspecting that the investigations into the four cases were carried out half-heartedly.

“If the President is truly committed to preventing gross human rights violations from happening again, the Indonesian government must promptly, effectively, thoroughly and impartially investigate all those allegedly responsible,” it wrote. (un)
