President Jokowi acknowledges 12 gross human rights violations in the past

Jakarta, IO – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo made the statement after receiving a report from the Team for Non-Judicial Settlements of Past Human Rights Violations (PPHAM) at the State Palace, Wednesday (11/1).

“I have carefully read the report from the PPHAM team formed based on Presidential Decree 17/2022,” Jokowi said as reported by Kompas.

“With a clear mind and a sincere heart, I as the Head of State of the Republic of Indonesia acknowledge that gross human rights violations did occur in various incidents,” he continued.

Jokowi said he regretted those events and emphasized that the government will try to restore the rights of victims of gross human rights violations in a fair and wise manner without ruling out judicial settlement.

“I and the government are making serious efforts to ensure that gross human rights violations will not happen again in Indonesia in the future,” he vowed.
