2023 French Cinema Festival Brings Films Screened at Palme d’Or to Indonesia

Jakarta, IO – If you love French cinema, the Indonesian Institute Français (IFI) Jakarta is holding a French Cinema Festival (FSP) which will take place from November 17-26.

According to a press release received by the Independent Observer, Saturday (11/11), the 25th cinema festival with the theme Palme d’Or will screen dozens of films that won awards at the Cannes Film Festival or other major film festivals in Europe.

“We chose this theme to celebrate the 25th edition of FSP because the Palme d’Or is the most prestigious award in world film given at the Cannes Festival in France,” said FSP coordinator Mathilde Bureau.

“This year, Anatomy of Fall by Justine Triet is the 10th French film to win the award. Therefore, we want to show a number of French films that won awards at Cannes and other European film festivals,” added Mathilde.

More than 20 films will be screened in cinemas in 14 cities in Indonesia. Meanwhile, 10 film titles will be available for free streaming via the Klik Film platform. All films shown are accompanied by English and Indonesian subtitles.

At the opening of the festival, on Friday (17/11), the premiere of the film Animal Kingdom (2023) will be shown, plus the presence of director Thomas Cailley and actor Paul Kircher at Djakarta Theater XXI, Jakarta.

Then, at the closing of the festival on Sunday (26/11), the film The Three Musketeers: D’Artagnan (2023) will be premiered.

There are also two directors of the film Zero Fuck Given (2021), Julie Lecoustre and Emmanuel Marre, actors from the latest film from director Cédric Klapisch, Rise (2022), Marion Barbeau and Mehdi Baki who will attend discussion and workshop sessions.

In addition, there will be a special program to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Jen Pierre Melville’s death with screenings of a number of his films, such as Léon Morin, prêtre (1961), Army of Shadows (1969), and The Red Circle (1970).

Another interesting program is Cinema de Genre, which presents films with distinctive visuals through elements of suspense, horror and blood which aim to build tension in the audience and celebrate the diversity of French cinema directorial forms. (at)
