Unesa, Embassy of Indonesia in KL pioneer Javanese language class for migrants’ children

Jakarta, IO – Surabaya State University (Unesa) collaborates with the Education and Culture Attaché of the Indonesian Embassy in Kuala Lumpur to provide a Javanese language class for the children of Indonesian migrant workers in Malaysia.

“The is intended for the children of Indonesian migrant workers from Java so they can master their own mother tongue and preserve their cultural identity,” said Slamet Setiawan, Unesa’s director of technology, information, communication and cooperation, per Tempo, Fri (5/1).

Slamet said this plan would be implemented in 2024. Academics from the Javanese Language and Literature study program, which has received international accreditation, would be involved in this activity.

Slamet said this program can also be integrated into the university’s community service by providing Unesa students with the opportunities to study in Malaysia.
