IO, Bogor – Rimba Basuki, a student of the Department of Soil and Land Resources, Faculty of Agriculture IPB University, was selected as Putra Padi (Son of Rice) of West Java 2020. Rimba managed to beat 16 male finalists in competing agricultural ideas, concepts, and actions.

The ceremony for Rimba as the Son of Rice in West Java was held at Villa Ciparay Indah, Garut Regency (19/8/2020). The awarding night for the Son of Rice in West Java 2020 was attended by officials from the Garut Regency Agriculture Service, the Garut Regency Food Security Service, the Indonesian National Youth Committee, and the Youth Ambassador Organization in West Java.

“I would like to thank IPB University for all the support. Alhamdulillah, I am very grateful for what I have accomplished today, because in this event there are so many extraordinary colleagues,” he said as quoted by PR of IPB University, Monday (8/24/2020).

For Rimba, this achievement was a stepping stone to jump onto other, bigger, and more challenging tasks. Rimba hopes that this title can be useful for the general public, especially Millennials.

“I hope that Millennials can be inspired and then move their hearts and no longer see agriculture as just a matter of mud but a much broader vision. So that then Millennials, including myself, would be moved to contribute more to agricultural progress,” he said.

In addition to presenting the best ideas about agriculture and the small business food product campaign, finalists were also trained to be good agricultural marketing actors and master promotional strategies. The hope is that they can go into the community and help farmers promote and sell their agricultural products.

Zam Ibraz, Founder of Putra Putri Padi (Sons and Daughters of Rice), said that this event is a talent search and fostering of young people who have an interest in agriculture. “We hope that all finalists can become Indonesian Agricultural Ambassadors and Influencers,” he said. (est)
