Elementary school student wins science competition in S. Korea with his disaster detection robot

Jakarta, IO – Muhammad Novan Alfarizi, an elementary school student in Musi Banyuasin regency, South Sumatra won the Mathematical Science Creativity Competition in South Korea at the end of October.

Novan competed against 20 teams from around the world and emerged as champion. He succeeded in making Indonesia proud in the field of megatronics for disaster management, per Okezone, Thu (16/11).

He invented a type of robot that is capable of tackling floods or forest fires. Novan does not come from a well-off family. He is the fourth child of Cendra and Idariyana. He goes to a school in Kayuara, Sekayu district.

Novan’s parents said they were proud of his achievement. They were moved because they never expected their son to win a world-class science competition. Other than a prize from the contest, Novan also received Rp25 million in cash from the Musi Banyuasin Regency adminisration as a token of appreciation. (un)
