Jakarta, IO – The Education, Culture, Research and Technology Ministry (Kemdikbudristek) issued ministerial regulation 53/2023 on Higher Education Quality Assurance, per Detikcom, Wednesday (30/8).

Minister Nadiem Makarim said the changes affect the bachelor (S1) and Diploma 4 (D4) level.  The thesis which was previously a requirement for graduation has now been eliminated. In its stead, the program has implemented a project-based curriculum or other similar forms.

For students who have not yet undertaken a project-based curriculum, their graduation requirement can be replaced with a final assignment in the form of a prototype, project, or other similar forms.

According to Nadiem, this change was made because each program head has the independence to determine how to measure the standard for student graduation. Thus, the uniform standard that applies nationwide is no longer needed.

“Higher education can formulate attitudes and skills competencies in an integrated manner,” added Nadiem.

In addition, Kemdikbudristek will bear the cost of higher education accreditation carried out by the National Accreditation Agency for Higher Education (BAN-PT), which was previously borne by the institutions themselves. (un)
