Polri deploys thousands of personnel to beef up security during election results announcement

Jakarta, IO – The General Elections Commission (KPU) is scheduled to announce the results of the 2024 elections in Jakarta today, Wednesday (20/3). To ensure security, the National Police (Polri) has deployed 1,910 personnel to KPU office, said Central Jakarta Police spokesperson Ipda Ruslan, per Tirto, Wed (20/3).

The deployment is in response to planned demonstrations outside KPU office, as well as the House of Representatives (DPR) compound.

“The permit has been received by the police. Demonstrations will be held at the two locations (KPU and DPR),” said Ruslan.

He explained that traffic diversions would be implemented in front of the two locations. He also appeals to the protesters to hold demonstrations in a peaceful manner and not breaking the law.

“Please carry out demonstrations peacefully, do not force your will, do not be anarchic and do not damage public facilities. Respect other road users,” he urged.

KPU is expected to wrap up the national vote recapitulation in the remaining two of 36 provinces, namely the Papua and Highlands Papua today. Once completed, the final results of the 2024 elections will be announced. The official results so far show that presidential pair No 2, Prabowo-Gibran, is leading with a comfortable margin in 34 provinces. (un)
