Jakarta, IO – President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo opened the 2024 Indonesia International Motor Show (IIMS) at the Jakarta International Expo, Kemayoran, Jakarta, Thursday (15/2).

Jokowi used this opportunity to encourage the development of the electric vehicle ecosystem. He said that electric-based vehicles are the future of the country’s automotive industry, per Setkab.go.id.

“I think the future of Indonesian automotive is in electric cars because we have nickel and other raw materials,” said Jokowi.

He said the government will support the industry by reducing value added tax (VAT) for electric vehicle purchases.

“I think this will encourage sales and lead to increased production at electric vehicle (EV) plants in Indonesia,” he said.

Jokowi said these measures will ensure that Indonesia can compete with other countries. He also supports the electric vehicle ecosystem which can also encourage the creation of electric public transportation.
