Indonesia moves up four spots in FIFA rankings

Jakarta, IO – The Indonesian national men’s football team rose four places to 142nd, from previously 146th in the FIFA rankings.

According to FIFA’s official website on Thursday (15/2), the Garuda squad collected 1,072.66 points after adding 8.65 points obtained from Asian Cup 2023.

After making history by bringing the Indonesian national team to the Round of 16, coach Shin Tae-yong started the 2024 calendar with an increase in ranking.

In Southeast Asia, Indonesia is in fifth position. Thailand still occupies the top position, ranking 101st after rising 12 places, because it earned 29.37 points from Asian Cup 2023.

In second place is Vietnam, which is ranked 105th in the world. But its underperformance at Asian Cup 2023 made the team nicknamed the Golden Star Warriors drop 11 places because they lost 41 points.

Malaysia, which is in third place in the ASEAN zone, also drop two places to 132 after losing 12.7 points as a result of its poor performance in the 2023 Asian Cup.

Meanwhile, the Philippines, which did not participate in the 2023 Asian Cup, is ranked fourth in Southeast Asia after being ranked 139th in the world by collecting 1,086.17 points.

Meanwhile, after the Asian Cup and African Cup of Nations ended, the ranking of the top five in the FIFA country rankings has not changed. First place is still occupied by the 2022 World Cup champion Argentina with a collection of 1,855.2 points, followed by France which collected 1,845.44 points. In the third place is England with 1,800.05 points, while in fourth place goes to Belgium with 1,798.46 points and Brazil is in fifth place with 1,855.2 points. (rr)
