Meeting Macron, Jokowi discussed these four points

Jakarta, IO – President Joko Widodo held a bilateral meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron, at the Grand Prince Hotel, Hiroshima, Japan, on Sunday (21/5).

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed four issues, from Indonesia’s membership in the Financial Action Task Force (FATF) to defense-related matters.

“First, Indonesia’s membership in FATF, I ask for France’s support for Indonesia to be accepted as a member of FATF. Indonesia is the only G20 country that is not yet a member of FATF,” Jokowi said, according to the website of Cabinet Secretariat (Setkab), Monday (22/5).

Second, Jokowi asked for Macron’s support so that the Indonesia-EU Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IUE-CEPA) can be completed next year.

Third, they also discussed investments in strategic sector. Jokowi welcomed the participation of French companies in Indonesia’s downstream projects and French assistance, through the Agence Française de Développement (AFD) and the Just Energy Transition Partnership.

In addition, cooperation between the Center de coopération internationale en recherche agronomyque pour le développement (CIRAD) and the Indonesian Biru Foundation in sustainable development.

“Indonesia is also open to investment to build Nusantara capital city in the fields of infrastructure, green energy and ecotourism. We have prepared investment incentives and facilities,” he added.

Fourth, in the field of defense and primary weapon system (alutsista), Jokowi welcomes the joint venture plan between PT Len Industri and Thales.

“Let’s continue to encourage technology transfer, knowledge transfer and co-production,” said Jokowi.

“I invite the French private sector to participate in the concrete implementation of AOIP cooperation. I also invite France to participate in the ASEAN Indo-Pacific Forum in Jakarta in September.” (at)
