Meeting Zelenskyy at the G7 summit, Jokowi: Indonesia is ready to be Ukraine-Russia “bridge of peace”

Jakarta, IO – President Joko Widodo held a number of bilateral meetings with G7 partner countries on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Hiroshima, Japan, Saturday (20/5).

According to the website of the Foreign Ministry, Monday (22/5), Ukraine is one of the countries highlighted by Jokowi. He openly expressed his support for President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and stated Indonesia’s readiness to become a bridge of peace between Ukraine and Russia.

During the meeting, the two leaders discussed many things, especially the issue of food and humanitarian assistance, as discussed in Kyiv several months back. Jokowi said Indonesia is committed to contribute to the rebuilding efforts of one of the hospitals in Ukraine.

“The Indonesian government continues to coordinate with the World Bank and Ukraine Ministry of Health regarding this matter,” said Jokowi.

Zelenskyy also expressed his appreciation for Indonesia’s role in advocating for peace in Ukraine. He said Jokowi was one of the first head of states to visit Kyiv when Ukraine was experiencing “tough situations.” (un)
