New York, IO – Andy Warhol’s Marilyn Monroe painting sold for US$195 million (Rp2.8 trillion) when it was auctioned Monday (9/5). It set a record for the work of an American artist to be auctioned off.
Called “Shot Sage Blue Marilyn,” the artwork is part of a series of portraits Warhol made after his death in 1962, and has become one of his most famous works, Antara reported on Wednesday (11/5).

Part of the collection of Swiss art dealers Thomas and Doris Ammann, the painting was sold by Christie’s at a New York auction. Estimated pre-sale price hit US$200 million (Rp2.9 trillion).
