Chef Afit D. Purwanto and Lucy Wiryono founded the Loobie Lobster Restaurant in 2012, to serve lobster dishes at affordable prices. Loobie Lobster was first established in the elite area of Gunawarman, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, with a small and minimalist outlet, consisting of seven tables and a capacity of 30 seats.
Loobie Lobster Restaurant targets a family market segment. “We founded Loobie Lobster to serve a different selection from Holycow! Group. Holycow! serves steak; thus, Loobie Lobster provides a choice of lobster dishes,” said Lucy Wiryono.
The concept of Loobie Lobster is to serve lobster at affordable prices. With this concept, it is different from other restaurants that sell lobster at a price calculated per gram, Loobie Lobster sells lobster at a rate per serving. Thus, said Lucy, consumers already know in advance the price of the dish they ordered.
They serve a lobster menu with various seasoning choices, such as chili and black pepper. The lobster menu is even more delicious to eat with selected rice and chili sauce, Sambal Matah, and Spicy Garlic typical of Loobie Lobster. Sambal Matah from Bali with ingredients of onion, lemongrass and cayenne pepper gives a unique spicy taste.
Besides serving a lobster menu, Loobie Lobster provides a variety of other platters. The Mix Platter serves lobster and shrimp in one plate, while the Whole Lobster Platter menu consists of rice, lobster, fried calamari, and selected sauce, chili sauce, or spicy garlic.
Calamari is also one of the main-” “stay menus of Loobie Lobster favored by visitors, along with a Loobie Bowl menu which is perfect for consumers who often order food online. Options for Loobie Bowl are fried calamari and chicken, with a choice of Loobie Lobster or black pepper.
Currently Loobie Lobster has branches in Tendean, South Jakarta, and Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta. When the situation is normal, visitors to Loobie Lobster can reach 100 pax per day. However, during the COVID-19 pandemic, it has decreased to around 10-20 pax.
