Jakarta, IO – Indonesia commemorates Heroes Day every November 10. This year, the Commission on Violence Against Women (Komnas Perempuan) drew attention to a little-known fact – the history on the roles of heroines in independence struggle only gets a small portion in historical writing.
“This is inseparable from the perspective and method of historical writing that still uses a masculinist approach, which perpetuates the notion that men is more important and superior than women,” said Komnas Perempuan chair Mariana Amiruddin, reported Antara on Thursday (11/10).
Mariana said in 2022, the State Secretariat’s website featured 185 men and only 15 women heroes who have been honoured as national heroes.
