Jakarta, IO – Yusril Ihza Mahendra, the head of the Prabowo-Gibran Legal Team responded to the 2024 presidential election result challenge filed by Team No 1 Anies-Muhaimin and No 3 Ganjar-Mahfud.

“If they seek to disqualify Gibran based on the Constitutional Court’s (MK) decision, then the two petitioners are actually not dealing with the KPU (electoral commission) and us as the related Party. They are facing the MK itself,” said Yusril, per CNN Indonesia, Tue (26/3).

Yustil explained that Gibran became vice presidential candidate based on MK ruling which reviewed the Election Law provision of age limit for the presidential and vice presidential candidates.

In addition, Yusril also derided Anies-Muhaimin and Ganjar-Mahfud’s lawsuits as “odd” because they only took issue with Gibran’s candidacy after they have been defeated.

“This is odd and a truly inconsistent stance,” he chided.

Yusril explained that MK only has the authority to resolve disputes over election results as determined by the KPU while disputes regarding the administrative stages should be brought to the Elections Supervisory Agency (Bawaslu) and State Administrative Court (PTUN).

However, Yusril said his team will continue to prepare legal arguments and all the evidence needed to face the trial at the MK. But he is of the view that the judges are unlikely to approve the demand made by the losing contenders.

“If the 2024 presidential election is repeated, there would be a leadership vacuum because President Jokowi’s second term of office will end on October 20,” he pointed out.

Earlier, Anies-Muhaimin and Ganjar-Mahfud camps filed a lawsuit against the 2024 presidential election result with the MK and demanded that the election be repeated without the participation of Gibran, the eldest son of President Joko Widodo. (un)
