Komnas Perempuan urges historical writing to feature more national heroines

“The public knows very little about the character and contribution of women heroes in the struggle for independence in historical literature and school textbooks,” he said.

In fact, said Mariana, the geographical diversity and cultural richness of the archipelago holds many stories concerning the struggles of female freedom fighters.

“These figures are cross-generational and cross-sectoral with their own local wisdom,” he said.

Thus, Mariana said Komnas Perempuan encourages the writing of national and regional histories to feature more women heroes across the archipelago, and to be more inclusive to inspire more women to take up leadership position. (un)
