Indonesia Successfully Initiates the First UN Resolution in Creative Economy

Jakarta, IO – At the 78th UN General Assembly in New York, the Indonesian government succeeded in initiating the adoption by consensus of the first UN Resolution which specifically discussed the creative economy. It was titled “Promoting Creative Economy for Sustainable Development.”

Fifty nine countries as co-sponsors, coming from various regions and different levels of development, agreed to the resolution which is said to reflect the diversity of representation amidst ever-changing global politics, per Kemlu.go.id, Wed (20/12).

The negotiation process for the draft, which consists of 38 paragraphs, was led by Indonesia for six weeks in October and November at UN headquarters. This resolution also shows Indonesia’s continued role in encouraging international cooperation on creative economy.

There are several points in the resolution that encourage UN member countries to develop the creative economy sector, including strengthening data and research, talent development, education and training, to intellectual property and digital technology. (bp)
