Jakarta, IO – After having been managed by Singapore for a long period of time, the Flight Information Region (FIR) has officially returned to Indonesia’s control. President Joko Widodo signed a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) 109/2022 on the ratification of FIR accord between Indonesia and Singapore on Thursday (8/9). According to Jokowi, this agreement is a step forward for the international recognition of Indonesia’s airspace.

Jokowi said that Indonesia’s air space over Riau and the Natuna Islands has long been managed by Singapore. However, thanks to the cooperation of all relevant parties, currently its management has been returned to the Unitary State of the Republic of Indonesia (NKRI).

“This increases the area of Jakarta Flight Information Region (FIR) to 249,575 square kilometers,” he added.

This further affirms Indonesia’s sovereignty over all its airspace. The President also conveyed a number of benefits, including increased aviation safety and security guarantees. It will also increase non-tax state revenue (PNBP).
