Jakarta, IDM – Several historic railway stations in Indonesia will be revitalized in order to preserve their historical value so that they can continue to live in the memory of the public. This was stated by Transport Minister Budi Karya Sumadi. The ministry is currently deciding which stations will be prioritized first.

“We are currently studying which stations have the potential to be revitalized and with this revitalization they will restore their historical values,” said Budi, per Katadata, Wed (13/3).

Budi explained that the stations to be revitalized were considered based on their historical value as well as their potential to be developed into tourist destinations. One of them is Cirebon Station, which has been around since colonial era and the main building has a classic European architectural style.

The revitalization concept is also being designed to preserve their historical heritage. “I am currently evaluating heritage stations in Indonesia. We know that stations in Indonesia are beautiful and rich in history,” he said.
