Jakarta, IO – Dicky Budiman, epidemiologist at Griffith University Australia, cautioned of the potential for monkeypox to enter Indonesia because Indonesia had direct flights to several countries that have reported growing infections.

Dicky said the possibility is magnified if it comes from countries that reported many cases. Moreover, animals carrying this virus also exist in Indonesia.

“So, if asked whether monkeypox can potentially enter Indonesia, I would say the likelihood is very high. Moreover, the incubation period for this disease is around three weeks, so the potential for someone to carry the virus without realizing it is even greater,” Dicky was quoted as saying by Sindonews, Monday (23/5).
