Embassy of Italy: The 4th Italian Cuisine Week

IO – The Embassy of Italy and the Italian Cultural Institute, Jakarta hold the 4th of the Italian Cuisine Week in the World which is held on November 18-27 2019. On the first day, the committee organized a Conference event filled with lectures on ‘Beautiful Cinque Terre and the Geographical’ Indications: Regional Marketing and Local Quality in the Global Economy delivered by Irene Calboli, visiting Professor at Nanyang Technological University Singapore, in collaboration with a delegation of the European Union to Indonesia and Brunei Darussalam, which was then continued with cooking demonstrations and food-tasting with specialty cooking from the Region of Liguria by Chef Stefani Vigone, Mamma Rosy restaurant. 

In his opening remarks, the Director of the Italian Cultural Institute Jakarta, HE Maria Battaglia said, “That the purpose of organizing this event is to promote Italian food as food of the highest quality. She reminded us that we should not buy anything especially if it is related to food. “We have to be careful when it comes to buying food products, and we want people to become familiar with Italian food products which are highest in quality”. 

Meanwhile, Professor Irene Calboli emphasized the importance of geographical indications to promote the local economy in the global market. There are some examples of products that though protection has grown and become well known, and are better protected in the global market. The registration of the product based on geographical indication will not only increase the product but also the value of the product. 

The following days are dedicated to cinema with culinary themes. Every day at 18.30, a selection of Italian films are screened: La Cena per farli conoscere (A Dinner for them to meet) by Pupi Avati, Vino dentro (Re Wined) by Fernando Vicentini and L’abbuffata (The Feast) by Mimmo Calopresti 

The program will be closed with a unique performance of Mezzotono, an Italian acapella group, which carries around the world a unique and original show. They perform without any instruments, only five voices that imitate the sound of the real musical instruments and with a comical approach. Meotono sings cover of Italian well known songs in different music genres, ranging from jazz, pop, bossanova, mambo, tango, folklore, big band style to classical music, showing that with human voices it is possible to do everything. The concert takes place on 27 November 2019 at 19.00 in Live House, M Bloc Space, Melawai, South Jakarta, and it is open to the public. (OHW)
