With such clear, measurable vision, mission, and programs, Dhyani believes that she will get elected, “… even though many people think that politics is a dirty, intrigue-filled field that is not something a woman should enter. This is false, as the presence of women might shame people into cleaning up their act – or women can clean things up. It’s what we do after all. We also see things differently from men – things that might escape their attention in relation to our needs and the needs of our children. Isn’t the whole point of having a democratic state is to ensure that the people are empowered and prosperous?” Dhyani said.

“Having women on board helps to round up our democracy because we can create policies that devote attention to our specific interests and the interests of children, which are distinct from the interests of men… That said, no matter how good a policy is, it’s useless unless we have reliable and trustworthy leaders directing its implementation. Therefore, it is necessary for us to select truly competent and credible representatives – both men and women. Women voters should also start to support women representatives, in order to ensure that the laws created also protect women and their interests,” she declared.

What is the principle underlining the aspirations, activities, and achievements of one Dhyani Prima? “The one espoused by the great statesman and religious figure, Buya Hamka. He once said, ‘Don’t be afraid of failure! Only those who never take a single step never fail.’ Failure is a certainty you will meet in daily life again and again. You may think that great people never fail, but believe me, it’s actually the contrary. They became great precisely because they keep on getting back up from their failures, and learning from them to get better the next time. This is the philosophy that lies at the foundation of my spirit in chasing my dreams and passions,” she said.

What about family? What do they think about mama going into politics? “Alhamdulillah, praised be Allah, my husband actually encouraged me to go ahead with the candidacy. I was initially doubtful, but he supports me and tells me not to fear failure. My children, too – no matter what their mama wants to do, they will support me – as long as I can manage my time and priorities properly, of course,” she laughed.

Good for you. Keep on fighting the good fight, Dhyani! (des)
