Jakarta, IO – Mount Anak Krakatau erupted twice on Thursday (15/12) morning. The first eruption spewed a column of ash up to 700 meters tall, reported CNN Indonesia.
Jumono, an staff at volcano monitoring station Pasauran, Serang regency, Banten, reported via Magma Indonesia – an app created by the Energy and Mineral Resources Ministry – that the column of grey ash was heading northeast.
“The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 37 mm and a duration of 4 minutes 46 seconds, and no explosion was heard,” he wrote.
The second eruption occurred at 10:35 a.m. WIB with a column of white ash up to 100 meters above the peak, to the northeast.

The eruption was recorded on a seismogram with a maximum amplitude of 7 mm, a duration of 1 minute 9 seconds, and no explosion was heard.
The public, especially fishermen and tourist, are advised not to approach within a 5 kilometer radius of the volcano, which is situated on the Sunda Strait. The alert status has been raised to level 3, the second highest of a four-tiered warning system. (rr)
