Jakarta, IO – Survey by online travel agent Agoda named Surakarta, also known as Solo, as with the destination with the most competitive or cheapest room rates this April based on data gathered on March 28.
Agoda International Indonesia country director Gede Gunawan said the average room rate in Surakarta is Rp555,000, cheaper compared to other cities such as Surabaya (Rp570,000), Semarang Rp615,000), Yogyakarta (Rp660,000) and Medan (Rp675,000), reported Antara, Friday (14/4).
He revealed that many people are gearing up for a holiday during the festive seasons especially after Covid curbs are relaxed but at the same time higher cost of living force them to be wiser in spending their hard-earned money.
“I hope Agoda’s survey can help tourists find several attractive destinations while saving money at the same time,” he said.
Surakarta has been known as a cultural center since 1745, when the Mataram Palace was moved from Yogyakarta to Solo. The city’s reputation has grown in recent years as the birthplace of President Joko Widodo. Other famous attraction it offers include Solo dance, wayang (shadow puppetry) and handmade batik.

Solo Menari is held to commemorate World Dance Day on April 29 while Solo Keroncong Festival which will be held from July 22-23 to introduce and conserve Solo’s traditional folk music.
