Jakarta, IO – Gunung Padang, situated in Cianjur regency, West Java, is thought to be one of the oldest sites in the world, built in 8000 BC. It is believed to be even older than the pyramids in Egypt which dates back to around 2500 BC.

The existence of Mount Padang was once associated with an ancestral civilization that had knowledge of more advanced architecture because of its shape resembling the Pyramid of Giza. Nevertheless, archaeologist Dr. Lutfi Yondri revealed that it is actually not a pyramid, but a punden berundak (stone terrace).

“It needs to be clarified, Gunung Padang is not a pyramid. Carbon dating shows that it was built between 117 to 45 BC,” he said, reported Detik Edu, Friday (14/4).

The author of a book “Gunung Padang site: Culture, Humans and the Environment” refers to a research notes by Dutch researchers Verbeek (1891) and Krom (1914).
