Jakarta, IO – The 2022 AFF Mitsubishi Electric Cup (formerly AFF Suzuki Cup) semifinal first leg will see Indonesia clash with Vietnam at the Gelora Bung Karno Stadium, Friday (6/1) afternoon.
Based on match record, Vietnam has never beaten Indonesia in 26 years. The last time the Indonesian national team won over Vietnam was in the first leg of the 2016 semifinal. After that, Indonesia recorded two defeats and two draws in all competitions, reported CNN Indonesia, Friday (6/1).
In their 25 meetings at senior competitions, the Garuda squad scored eight wins against the Golden Star’s seven, while 10 matches ended in a draw. In the AFF Cup itself, six out of 10 matches ended in a draw. Indonesia has won three times over Vietnam while Vietnam only won once in the third-place playoff in the 1996 edition.

Vietnam won 3-2 thanks to goals from Huynh Quoc Cuong, Yeyen Tumena’s own goal, and Vo Hoang Buu. While Indonesia’s goals were created by Kurniawan Dwi Julianto and Aples Tecuari. Since the match at the Singapore National Stadium, Vietnam has yet to defeat Indonesia in the AFF Cup. (rr)
