Jakarta, IO – Foreign Ministry (Kemlu) suspects foreign parties are directing Rohingya refugees to make a landing in Aceh as a transit point, reported CNN Indonesia, Friday (6/1).

According to Kemlu’s human rights director Achsanul Habib, the Rohingya refugees were initially concentrated in refugee camps in Bangladesh. However, they have exceeded their capacity. Many refugees then seek asylum in Malaysia assisted by human trafficking syndicates.

The refugees are said to be willing to pay a large sum of money to be able to reach Malaysia by sea. The vessels were equipped with GPS device that can connect to a number of international institutions.

“They have connections and networks in Aceh. They are guided by GPS. Indonesia is their temporary stopover. They disembark and trafficked to Malaysia in small groups,” said Achsanul.
